The Bad Plus are the greatest. I see them every chance I get, and each of them is a great composer in his own right. I've now done two of Dave King's pieces (available here), and this is the first of Reid Anderson's songs I've arranged. It's an absolutely beautiful song, inspiringly performed by pianist Ethan Iverson. I can't begin to approach the majesty and emotional depth that TBP bring to it, but I think the arrangement is a good attempt at getting the best of the song across in piano solo form.
Since the piece is 9 minutes long, I couldn't in good conscience include it as part of my From The Top radio broadcast at Jordan Hall last night, but, as that particular show had as special guest the great violinist, Hilary Hahn, she and I were invited to perform that morning at the wonderful new performing studio at WGBH in Boston. Hilary and I played the second movement of Ives' Second Violin Sonata (a real barn-burner), I played some Bach (also up on this site, though in a different venue/performance), and we also heard an excerpt from Hilary's gorgeous traversal of the Schoenberg Violin Concerto (currently residing atop the Billboard Classical charts! Go Arnold!). I liked the piano at GBH, but I think the recording suffers a bit from the limiting/compression of radio broadcast. I performed 'Lost of Love' again that night at Jordan Hall, though in a cut version, and if the sound quality seems a bit better, I'll put that one up after I get a chance to hear it through.
Enjoy.

Lost of Love is one of my favourite TBP numbers, and this is a great arrangement/interpretation of it. Look forward to more!

thanks, jamie-
it's been great working on the song hours on end. even more fun performing it and hearing such a glorious song come out of the piano.
glad you enjoyed it. there will most likely be video of the song up on the NPR site before to long. likewise with a lot of other arrangements i've performed on Fron The Top. pretty soon, NPR will have more than a dozen on their page dedicated to FTT.
best,
chris
