Bach: Invention in c minor

When we did our second season of From The Top Live at Carnegie Hall, we had a Bach advocate/scholar in 10-year old San Franciscan, Hilda Huang. She played one of the Contrapuncti from The Art of The Fugue, and she's appearing on an upcoming broadcast we're taping in Berkeley, CA at Zellerbach Hall (Bach again). Hilda brought such sheer joy and dedication to her Bach playing that it shamed me into the realization that I'd not played any Bach in a long time, though I've done (and also transcribed) some of his bigger pieces over the years. As a result, I'm starting to include the Two-Part Inventions as break-pieces on From The Top whenever I don't have a new arrangement to premiere on the show.

This performance comes from a show we did on 2008.05.14 at the Ferguson CPAC in Newport News, VA. A truly beautiful concert hall. (The whole show was really good, too. Check it out when it is broadcast in the next few weeks, or listen to it when it comes available on the FTT online archive at fromthetop.org.)

Enjoy.
