there's my STORE page on the website. that's the only place you can purchase the book. i ship worldwide.
best,
chris

I heard your transcription of Nick Drake's "Parasite" this morning on From the Top and I'm interested to see if you have published it. It was a mystical performance in how many revolving keys with a continuous Reich like accompaniment!

Your home site is not working as I have tried to order your "Radiohead" transcriptions. I'll keep trying.

bev-
the nick drake arrangements are not published, and are unlikely to be made available until '07 at the earliest.
i'm sorry you're having trouble ordering the radiohead book. there is a whole page on this site called STORE, and that should lead you to the kagi purchase page. to make things simpler, here's the direct link, which seems to be working fine:

Does the radiohead book only contain the songs from the album "True Love Waits"?

Thanks,

Chris

chris-
the book contains tracks from both 'true love waits' and 'hold me to this'.

Hi,
I was wondering about the possibility of using one or more of your covers of the Radiohead songs for a short film for festivals. I'm fresh out of college and the film is called, "The Legacy of Noname Fish." it's about two ten year old boys who are in charge of their school's aquarium in which lives a fish named noname, noname dies the the lead boy writes a eulogy about him. I wrote to your music and I always really wanted to use it for so many reasons. And I know that I'd have to probably get both yours and Radiohead permission and I wrote to the record label that released your cd and they had said that licensing could not be released and I didn't know if there was the stipulations that it could only be released if I get everyone's permission just to use it for festivals (it's only 7 mins) Any advice or anything would be really great to hear.
Thanks, Linzmarie

linzmarie-
thank you for your interest. there have been occasions where people have graciously asked for procedures whereby they could gain permission to use my versions of the radiohead songs for motion pictures or television. the short answer is, they are still radiohead songs, and i do not own my own arrangements (strange though it may seem), i only have the right to publish and distribute my piano versions, and of course the label has paid the publishers, warner-chappell, for the licensing needed to sell the cds. other than that, i have no control; one must seek all use through radiohead's publishers, and that, i am told, is prohibitively expensive.
my apologies. my hands are tied.
best wishes on your project.
chris

Hi,

your arrangements on True Love Waits are fantastic! I would like to purchase the book but am wondering whether the site is save for transactions. There is no way to purchase the book in a store? I live in Germany.
Thank you.

joe-
the kagi purchase page is the most secure online service i've dealt with. they are also extremely conscientious in terms of handling any requests for refunds, trouble reports, etc.
the book is completely unavailable in any other place. i hope you will order with confidence.
best wishes,
chris

Christopher,

I'm a big fan, beginning the first time I heard your Vers la Flamme. I own your Radiohead and Elliot Smith albums as well. I have a suggestion for a future project for you. In addition to the roughly 450 classical and jazz albums I own, I also own a handful of popular music albums: Elliot Smith, Radiohead, and Tool. True, there are a few others, but those three are by far my favorites -- those I consider to be the most interesting and captivating musically and artistically. And I have to say that I believe that Tool's music (at least much of it) will sustain the kind of piano interpretations with which you have graced the music of Rh and ES.

If you're interested in investigating the possibility at all, then I suggest you take a look at their 3 most recent albums: Aenima, Lateralus, and 10,000 Days. On Aenima, look at tracks entitled "h," "46 and 2," "Jimmy," "Pushit," "Aenima," and "Third Eye." On Lateralus, check out "The Grudge," "The Patient," "Schism," "Parabol/Parabola," and "Lateralus." on 10,000 Days look at "Jambi," "10,000 Days," "The Pot," "Rosetta Stoned," "Intension," and "Right in Two."

Several artists have already compiled various "tributes" to Tool -- even for piano, as well as string quartet -- but nothing remotely approaching the quality of what you've done on TLW and HTO.

Look into it; I emplore you, for my own sake.

brad-
you're right on the money. i've been listening to tool for a while now, just for enjoyment, 'a perfect circle', too. i imagine something will trickle through to the fingers eventually.
many thanks also for your kind words.
best wishes,

chris

Hi! I'm Christian. The boy from the fargo concert who needed to practice more.
I was wondering if there was a way to buy the sheet music to paranoid android whithout having to buy the $60 book.
If so,
please contact me.

christian-
when dealing with the publishers of radiohead's music (the ultimate authority regarding any printed version of their music, however altered or rearranged it might be) i looked into the possibility of publishing each title seperately. it was too prohibitively expensive and unwieldy to do so.
i apologize, but i am unable to offer 'paranoid android' in any way other than the volume for sale on my website.
sorry.
best wishes,
christopher

hey, I love the album, and am hopefully going to get the piano book, do you have any idea how long it may take to get to england!

amy-
i ship to england constantly. international airmail will take at most a week, although at present i am videotaping my TV program in new york city and will only be able to ship a book to you as of monday. i hope that delay will not be too unwieldy.
warm regards,
chris

Hello Chris,
my name is David Meneses and I listen to "From the Top" almost every Sunday. I am 19 years old and was really hoping that I would be able to appear on the show. I called the number to talk to a representative of From the Top and they said that it is possible for me to play but they aren't too sure. I was just wondering what you might be able to do about this whole thing. I have been playing the piano for 12 years and I just got into composing music a few years ago. I realized that the music I have been writing reminds me of the Radiohead pieces you play (but pales in comparison) and that makes me feel really great. Thanks for releasing this music to the world. Please listen to these next words: the True Love Waits CD TRULY HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. It really takes me back to great memories and I feel total bliss when I listen to it. I can't really explain it but I really feel something I have never felt before when I listen to this CD.
Thanks for your time and if you can help me with "From the Top" I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
In music,
-David Meneses

david-
i would love to be able to help you, but i myself have nothing to do with the audition process whereby our guests are invited on the show. i do know that we've never had a guest over the age of 18, so i apologize if anyone at the FTT office gave you undue reason for hope. we really are interested in forstering young talent, but once a certain age is reached, we've made the 18th year our own cutoff point.
i wish you all the best with your own musical pursuits and thank you for your warm words about my own.
best wishes,
christopher

Hi Chris.
I'm listening to your album, True Love Waits, and twiddiling my thumbs while I wait for my book order to get here. I know you've played quite a lot of arrangments of popular music, but I was wondering if you ever performed any Beatles tunes. Like radiohead their whole is much greater than the sum of their parts. Strawberry fields and Michelle would get my vote if you ever decide to perform them.

corey-
i'll be sending your book out this morning. it should be to you in 2-3 days.
it's funny you mention the beatles. one of my earliest pop arrangements was just after geaorge harrison died. i made a medley of 'within you and without you & blue jay way'. i'm actually going to record it for itunes at the end of the week. that's the only beatles stuff i've done, but your suggestions are well taken.
enjoy the book!
best,
chris

Hey Chris, my name is Cole. I really like your piano arrangements of Radiohead, and I am interested in buying the "True Love Waits" book; however, i want to make sure this is the actual music you play in your album, and just not another arrangement. Does the book contain the arrangements you play on the CD?

cole-
the book is a completely true rendering in print of the arrangements as played on 'true love waits' and 'hold me to this'. in some cases, the book versions reflect revisions and improvements, but most assuredly no simplifications.
best,
chris

Hi Chris, I just ordered your book for my girlfriend Gabrielle as a christmas present and i realize it probably won't get here to Australia before then but i just wanted to say thank you for making this available to the public. We listen to your recordings regulary and i have been doing small transcriptions of the pieces for Gabrielle but i'm excited to see the real deal! I watched your interview with Leo Schofield the other day too which was a great insight...so many questions so little time.
All the best, thanks again
-Cam

cam-
my conversation with leo schofield was such a pleasure. he's such an erudite man with an infectiously convivial personality. i really enjoyed speaking with him, as well as the numerous other press people i had the honour of being with in my time Down Under.
i'm just heading home from touring and will be sending out the book as soon as i get home. i'm hopeful you'll have it for christmas.
and cheers on your myspace tunes.
all the best,
christopher

Hi Chris,

Will you be releasing a piano book for your Elliott Smith tribute anytime soon? I adore your transcriptions. I would love to own them but they're a bit pricey. Also, (coming from a Piano Performance major) any suggestions for getting into performing positions such as yourself? Was it difficult for you to become so well-known?

Best Regards,
Mary

mary-
i've no immediate plans to make an elliott smith volume, although, with my nick drake record coming out in the spring, i might begin to consider making TWO more books, one nick, one elliott, in the near future.
i'm sorry you feel the book to be too pricey; having purchased thousands of dollars of piano music over the decades, i can assure you that, with the voluminous amount of artwork included as well as the comprehensive list of songs (inclusive of both my radiohead albums) the book is quite reasonably priced.
i must say i scratch my head when considering myown path to semi-celebrity in the music world, such as it is. i used to put it all down to having done well in competitions, but that tends to be ephemeral fame in and of itself. i do feel that competitions are still the best known means of getting yourself before the public, both professional and recreational. i would have to say that 'from the top' has also been a contributing facor to my notoriety, but there again, there are a lot of people who listen to the program who have no idea that i actually play the piano for a living. and of course, the radiohead arrangements have brought me to a wider audience than i could ever have imagined, but that again was not some sort of calculated move, which brings me to my best nugget of advice: play your best, and play what you really believe in. i think in the end, the personality of the performer has to be compelling and original. the substance of that personality has, or should have, at its base, a service to the music we play, so just being idiosyncratic is not the final answer either.
follow your heart.
best wishes,
christopher

Hi Christopher,

A couple things: firstly, I cannot thank you enough for publishing this book. It must have been compiled with such care... the artwork done on every page, the attention to detail with which you treat the phrasing, dynamics, everything. The word "murmurando" in 'Let Down,' so perfect for the passage. Perhaps there are more of these poetic gems hidden away ... it will be a pleasure to seek them out.

How would one go about getting permission to perform a few of these songs in a concert? It would jonly be a local recital, but I want to go through the right channels and not step on anyone's toes, least of all yours or the brilliant musicians of Radiohead. Again, thank you for bringing such engaging and beautiful music to the fingertips of us ordinary pianists!

Best wishes,
sarah lantz

sarah-
thank you for your appreciative words.
i would be only too happy for you to perform them. i am fairly sure the only way radiohead would have to be consulted would be if you were to record them for commercial release. for concert performance, i would appreciate it if the program page would have composer credited as
'radiohead/arr. o'riley'
other than that, please let me know whether there are any things in the score i can clear up for you. although, as you mention, the volume took some care in preparing, there were some expediencies made in order to keep the page visually clear.
best of luck in your performances.
best wishes
christopher

chris-
im trying to buy your book (true love waits)from kagi
but i put in the number of copies i want and the shipping i want but i dont know what to do after that
can u please help me
or anyone who reads these

- zach

zach-
i have trouble seeing what to do there myself. it may be a browser-specific problem, as i've had a couple of orders lately (and so thought the problems with the purchase site were solved).
i'll look into it. again.
sorry for the inconvenience.
best wishes,
chris

chris-
could you please explain to me how to order
it could be somthing with the browser but i went over how to order at the top of the page like 10 times and i dont understand it.
can you walk me throught the steps please?

-zach

zach-
what i'm trying to tell you is, it's not working for me either. i've let my webmaster know that there is a problem, even after i alerted him to the situation as it was, and the purchase page obviously worked for some people (i filled a few orders since the problem was called to my attention). clearly, there's nothing aside the shipping options and numbers of ordered items; seems to me there should be some 'add to cart' kind of button that would then dumps things into the cart, but there's nothing there.
bear with us. we'll fix it as soon as possible.
apologies,
chris

im just curious what key's "karma police" and "fake plastic trees in"?

zach-
I believe both are in the key of A, with 'karma police' starting in a minor and 'fake plastic trees' in A Major.

oh my gosh, chris I just received the book. It's amazing. Not only a work of superb music, but of art as well! I love it! Hey, how would one go about getting an autograph from you?

taylor-
damn! there's a space on the order form for miscellaneous notes and requests. it's always been my policy to sign a book whenever asked. i just never offer to do so upfront for fear of seeming arrogant (and steve byram, the artist who had, as you now see, a major role and impact on the volume, lives in NJ, would be as much to be sought as signitory). but in general, if asked, i'd be happy to. i often run into book recipients at concerts, and i sign it then. that puts a face with the name, too, which is nice.
sorry we didn't think of it together in our correspondence here.
hope to see you soon, then
c

Chris-
I have been playing out of your book lots and it is amazing! the best book i have ever bought but, i was wondering if you could send me you score to "gagging order". i saw on another post that u said that u had never actuallt finished it but could you please send me what you have?
thank you
-Zach

I just ordered your book, "True Love Waits". Thank you so much for sharing/publishing your arrangements. I was at your concert in DC Nov. 2006. I was amazed at how effective your transcriptions are and how alike, technically, they are to some of the more traditional repertoire that I play. Would you be so kind as to sign my book?
Thank you again. Have a wonderful day!

kristen-
the similarities to traditional repertoire happen serendipitously, albeit born of a lot of traditional repertoire, replete with rather handily forged piano figurations and textural ideas over the years, having passed under my fingers. the idea, for instance, of devising a left-hand ostinato that would offer a hint of the complexities of bassline, guitar-strumming, and the ongoing pulse in 'thinking about you', led to an unwitting homage to chopin's g major prelude; 'thinking about you' also, as it happens, is in g major. totally subconscious on my part.
i'd be honoured to sign your book. i'll have it in monday's mail.
warm regards,
christopher

Hi chris, just ordered the book, looking forwad to receiving it. Any idea when it might arrive here over the pond in UK? Will it make it before christmas?
I would love you to sign it if you can.
Many thanks indeed, Rob.

rob-
my international orders are shipping International First Class, and take up to 10 days to arrive, though it's more often the case they arrive a bit sooner than that. you will most assuredly receive the book in time for Christmas (signed as requested). please drop a line and let me know when it's arrived safely.
best always,
chris

Christopher,

My dream has come true! You released your sheet music! I've played piano for the last 12 years and when I first heard your "T.L.W." album 4 years ago I was amazed. I’ve been convinced for a while now that there's two piano tracks on "No Surprises”... now I’ll be able to see :-)

Anyway, thank you very much! I just purchased the book (I attached a note to my order form). Any chance I'll get it by Dec. 17th? I've got a month off for X-mas break from college and plan on trying to learn one song over that time. Though, I'm sure I won't even be able to do that :D

Thanks again,
- Stephen -

stephen-
although 'no surprises' is played by two hands alone (no overdubbing!), you'll see that it's the only piece in the book written across three staves rather than the normal bass-and-treble configuration; it would have looked stupid changing the left-hand clef so constantly. hopefully, it was the clearest way. you'll let me know, yes?
as the book will go out first thing monday, priority mail, you should have it by mid-week or so, certainly way before the 17th. drop me a line and let me know it's arrived safely, fully signed.
i hope you enjoy playing through the book. it's a good long-term project, i can vouch for that!
best,
christopher

Hi Chris, i was considering buying your radiohead piano book and wanted to know if the piano arrangements are identical in the book to the actual recordings you made on the two albums.

Also i live near Peterborough, England and was wondering if thats ok for delivery, if so what option do i select to get it delivered to me in England.

Thanks.

mark-
in most cases, the printed version is identical to that which i play. in some cases, as in 'everything in its right place', while there is much room for improvisation, there are, what i would describe as improvements over the recorded version (some neat harmonies i codified after the recording that i think work better). in any case, the book version should be considered the definitive, the recording being a nice first performance.
for the UK, you would choose EU SHIPPING, and i would be sending it international first class (air mail). should there be any problems with delivery (it should take 5-7 business days from date of shipment), i'm ever available to make sure all is well.
best wishes,
christopher

Wonderful pages! Keep up the great work.
